The tread belt has been upgraded from 20 inches by 55 inches to 20 inches by 60 inches, while the horsepower of the motor has been upgraded to 2.75 CHP.

The Frame

The ProForm 705 CST Treadmill features a steel frame that is solidly built to last with a roomy running surface. It weighs about 225 pounds and best for walking, jogging, and light running exercises. And this also means that the weight enhances its stability.

To further cement its stability it features adjustable stabilizers at the rear base while the front base has a set of a rubber pad that is designed to stick onto the floor so that the treadmill doesn’t move during a workout.

When you take a very close look at the running surface you will see three spring cells on each side of it that absorb part of the stress that could have affected the joints. The Motor

Just like the running surface and the workout Apps were improved upon so also the motor capacity has been upgraded to 2.75 CHP as oppose to 2.5 CHP it used to have back in 2011.

This is a welcome development because the motor is responsible for the drive of the tread belt which means the higher the capacity the longer a user can last working out without the motor breaking down.

If the ProForm 705 CST Treadmill has up to 3.0 CHP motor it would have been perfect for users who wish to perform serious running on it. Nevertheless, this is considered to be a mid-range treadmill that is great for walking, jogging, or light running.

The motor consists of a small flywheel that is designed to enhance stability and reduces vibration and it (motor) provides speed that ranges from 0.5 mph to 12 mph.

Interestingly, by default, the speed starts from 0.5 mph while a user can increase the speed by 0.1 mph through the console which is great because every user will be able to find the speed range that suits him during a workout.

That being said, the speed control button on the console has a dual function of increasing the speed by 0.1 mph and 0.5 mph depending on how you press the button. For instance, if you press the button briefly the speed increases by 0.1 mph but if you press and hold down the button then it increases by 0.5 mph.

Users have written in their feedback that this treadmill is quiet during operation, however; it won’t be silent as your cadence could generate some level of noise as you workout but won’t be annoying or disturbing. Therefore, it will suffice to say that the noise that emanates from the treadmill is very minimal and bearable.

The Console

The ProForm 705 CST Treadmill has a fairly large console of 7 inches that has a blue LED-backlit monitor that improves readability. This means that the data that is been displayed on the monitor can be seen vividly even in a poorly lit room.

The console is the control unit of the treadmill where a user can virtually manipulate the overall operation successfully.

The monitor displays all the useful and important workout data such as time, distance, speed, and incline, the number of vertical feet climbed, calories burned, and heart rate.  Interestingly, a user will be able to observe the workout intensity via the intensity bar.

The speed and the distance calculation have settings available in both metric and imperial units.

The console is telemetry enabled which means HR chest strap can be used to monitor the heart rate. The console is compatible with Bluetooth Smart heart rate monitors. Simply connect the device to the console by pressing the iFIt Sync button on the console. Once it is pressed, the LED on the console flashes twice once the connection is completed and this takes about 15 seconds.

If there is more than one compatible heart rate around the console then it will connect to the one that has a stronger signal.

To disconnect the heart rate device from the console is simply done by pressing and holding the iFit Sync button for 5 seconds.

This also means that a user can sync the smartphone or laptop with the console as long as they have Bluetooth and if the iFit App is installed but iFit membership is not included with the treadmill.

That being said, unfortunately, the HR chest strap is not also included in the package which means the user has to purchase it separately if he wishes to use one.  However, it is still possible to monitor the heart rate via the EKG sensors in the handlebars but the HR chest strap is believed to be more accurate in the transmission of the heart rate data though.

This version of ProForm 705 CST Treadmill has more workout Apps than the 2011 version. It has 22 workout programs that are geared towards helping users to achieve their fitness goals as they enjoy working out on the treadmill as well.

There are other features available on the console such as the sound system that consists of two 2 inches speakers, tablet holder, a cooling fan for keeping the user cool at all times during workouts, and accessory trays. The console has an audio jack that is compatible with iPod or smartphone which makes it possible for the user to listen to favorite music during a workout with quality output via the two large speakers on both sides of the console.

The accessory trays can contain some water bottles for hydration which is necessary during and after workouts and other small items a user might want to keep them.

The Incline

This treadmill has an automatic incline system that adjusts only when it is plugged into a power source. It has a 0 to 12 percent digital incline that is controlled via the console. However, the console will automatically adjust the incline when a user uses one of the exercise programs that involve incline.

The incline system has its motor that is smaller than the main treadmill motor with two levers that are designated on each side of the deck. The levers simply go low or lift when an incline level is selected.

But if you need a treadmill for serious running then this is not the treadmill because you have to look for the treadmill that has at least 3.0 CHP motor or above such as the ProForm Pro 1000 Treadmill or the Nordic Track C 990 Treadmill.
