The HORIZON Elite T5 Treadmill is a high-end workout machine that was released in 2017. It has similar features to the HORIZON T101 which was released in 2018.  

Although, the T5 Treadmill has a slightly powerful motor, an automatic incline system with extended levels, and supports higher user weight capacity than the T101 Treadmill.  

This is the treadmill for those that wish to engage in running, jogging, or walking workout activities in the comfort of their home.

The Frame & Construction 

The HORIZON Elite T5 Treadmill is built with steel and ABS material. The frame is constructed with steel and coated with gray and black anti-corrosion paint. While other notable parts such as the dashboard, the side rails, and the motors covers are made of ABS material.  

The front base incorporates cross-bar tubing and has two supports with transport wheels at the rear for enhanced stability and smooth transition of the incline. Moreover, the treadmill’s stability is further improved by its overall assembled weight of 227 lbs./103 kg. It’s a pretty heavy machine.  

Just as aforementioned, the treadmill is kind of large. The assembled dimensions are 73’’ long by 31’’ wide by 61’’ high. Differently put, it will need an area with measurements of 6’ (185.4 cm) in length by 2’6’’ (78.74 cm) in width for workout executions.  

It is also recommended to leave 3’ at the rear and 2’ on each side of the treadmill for safety and ease of access purposes.

The deck integrates a 3-zone variable response cushioning system that reduces stress on the joints. The tread belt is 1.4mm thick and it runs over a 2.4mm front roller and a 1.8mm rear roller. 

Both rollers have big sealed bearings, thus, they don’t wear out easily and they also prolong the tread belt lifespan. They are relubricated from the factory to run and function properly.  

The running surface is textured to provide good traction to any type of running shoe when exercising on it.  

The floor-to-seat height is about 10’’.  

The Incline System 

The HORIZON Elite T5 Treadmill has an automatic incline system. In other words, its incline system is motorized and can automatically adjust by a built-in program or by a push of a button while actively working out as opposed to a treadmill with a manual incline system such as the OMA Folding Treadmill that will require you to get off the treadmill to manually adjust it.    

The incline system has a dedicated motor whose job is to slowly lift or lower the front deck of the treadmill to initiate an incline when adjusted. 

The treadmill provides incline levels ranging from 0%-15% and could be adjusted gradually by 0.5%. or using the 0-9 quick keys on the console.  

It is important to consider the ceiling height of where the treadmill is going to be used to avoid the inconvenience of not having enough room for incline application.  

Ideally, ensure that the ceiling height of the workout room should be at least 20’’ higher than your height or the tallest user. So that when the incline is elevated there will still be enough clearance between the ceiling and your head.

The Motor 

The HORIZON Elite T5 Treadmill is equipped with a 2.75 CHP motor. Therefore, the treadmill needs to be plugged into a 110-120 V power outlet for it to be functional. It has a switch situated at the front base for turning it on and off. 

The motor is at the front base with a plastic covering. It is powerful enough to provide a consistent drive, and its performance does not diminish nor does it overheat during a prolonged workout.  

Its operation is also stable due to the incorporated small flywheel.   

The speed range it provides is 1-12 mph. Therefore, users will not only walk, or jog on it, but they can also sprint.  

Just like the incline system, the speed level automatically adjusts by a built-in program, if one is selected. It can also be adjusted gradually via the +/- buttons by an increment of 0.1mph or quickly be adjusted via the numeric buttons on the console.

The Console 

The console of the HORIZON Elite T5 Treadmill is integrated into a large plastic dashboard. It features an 8.5’’ diagonal LED monitor that tracks Time, Distance, Speed, Calories, Lap (each lap is 400 meters or ¼ miles), Heart Rate, HR Training Zone, Pace, and Incline with good readability.  

The Racetrack graph on the display helps you to visualize your workout progress. The section of the track illuminates every 50 meters.  

Speed and Distance measurement units are in mph & miles by default. But it could be toggled to km/h & km if you so wish.  

The console is telemetric. This means it is compatible with a wireless HR chest strap (HR chest strap device not included). Therefore, you must wear an HR chest strap or grasp the horizontal bar with HR sensors on them to be able to track your target heart rate zone.  

There are 38 workout programs available, operable via the 6 workout modes.  

The Manual program allows you to set speed and incline levels manually as you see fit for your workout. While the preset workout programs automatically select the speed and incline level for you depending on the selected preset workout program.  

The console is compatible with a passport video player, and it requires a home entertainment system for enjoyable virtual outdoor experiences. This is an interactive and adaptive passport exercise video technology that is optional to use. When you opt for it, you can train in exotic scenic paths whose sights and sounds sync with your pace. It avails of destinations such as Canadian Rockies, New Zealand lakeshores, Parisian boulevards, and the California coast.
