The Frame & Construction

Bluefin Fitness CURV 2.0 Elliptical Cross Trainer

The Bluefin Fitness CURV 2.0 Elliptical Cross Trainer’s frame is made of steel that is coated with anti-corrosion paint. Other parts are pretty made of ABS material, and they are either for cosmetic or protective purposes.

These parts include the drive system’s covers, the pedals, the stabilizers’ end caps, and the console casing.

The elliptical trainer is sturdily built to support up to 264 lbs./120 kg maximum user weight capacity.

It is not a large unit; thus, it won’t overwhelm your workout or storage space. The overall assembled dimensions are 44.48’’ long, by 19.6’’ wide, and 59.4’’ high. In other words, the unit requires a workout area with measurements of 3’7’’ (113 cm) in length by 1’6’’ (50 cm) in width and a ceiling height that is not less than 8’.

As per recommendation, 2’ clearance should be added on each side, front, and rear of the elliptical trainer so that you can easily access it and train without safety issues.

The machine is equipped with robust stabilizers and adjustable levelers at the rear for stable operation, and its assembled weight of 86 lbs./39 kg further optimizes its overall stability.

Regardless of its weight, you can still move it around the room without hassles due to the integrated transport wheels at the front base.

The Pedals of the Bluefin Fitness CURV 2.0 Elliptical Cross Trainer

As aforementioned, the pedals are made of quality plastic and each of them is attached to a steel bar that is connected to the handlebars. They are large and anti-slip designed with a safety guard to keep the feet stable.

The pedals can accommodate different foot sizes securely and comfortably and will be able to support users that are up to 264 lbs./120 kg in weight. However, they are non-adjustable.

Unfortunately, the stride length is short at 11’’/28 cm, and the elliptical trainer is recommended at max for 5’11’’ tall users.

The Handlebars

There are 2 sets of handlebars; one set is dual-action (moveable) handlebars, while the other set is static.

The static handlebars are not double vertical handles as the case with most elliptical machines; instead, it is a single horizontal bar attached to the console mast. It integrates the heart rate sensors on each side of the grips so that when grasped during a workout your pulse rate will be read and transmitted to the monitor.

The static handlebar, just as the name implies, does not move, it is fixed at the front part of the unit.

On the other hand, the moveable handlebars do not have heart rate sensors on them, but they do swing back and forth to enable you to engage the upper body in a workout. The movement of the handlebars is not independent because they are connected to the pedals and are always swinging as long as the pedals are moving.

They cannot be locked to make them stay still if they are not in use.

Both the static and the dual-action (moveable) handlebars are coated with a soft rubber foam material that provides soothing, comfortable, and secure grips.

The Drive

The Bluefin Fitness CURV 2.0 Elliptical Cross Trainer features a belt drive system that consists of a poly-v belt that adopts great traction for improved movement, a pulley, and a pretty heavy flywheel that weighs about 26.4 lbs./12 kg.

The heavy flywheel provides consistent momentum that translates to smoother and more stable operation. In other words, the belt drive system is quieter, smoother, and more stable than a chain drive system.

As a result, users have a preference for it, because it enables them to train without having to be concerned that other people around them might be disturbed. Moreover, the belt drive system does not require any type of maintenance at all.

The drive system is bidirectional; this means you can pedal in reverse to diversify your workout and engage more muscle groups. However, the resistance level remains at the same level at which it was used while pedaling forward.

The Resistance System

This cross-elliptical trainer is equipped with a magnetic resistance system that comprises a servo motor, and a magnetic brake. Thus, for the resistance to function, the unit needs to be plugged into the power outlet (power adapter included).

Resistance is generated when the servo motor moves the magnetic brake pad close or farther away from the flywheel without actual contact or friction.

Hence, the unit’s operation will still remain smooth and quiet even when resistance is actively engaged, and there will be no wearing parts as well.

The resistance system has 24 adjustable levels that offer different workout intensities for weight loss, improvement of cardiovascular health, and toning of muscle groups.

You can easily increase or decrease the resistance level via the buttons on the consoles or could automatically be applied when one of the 12 built-in preset workout programs is selected.

 The Console

The console of theBluefin Fitness CURV 2.0 Elliptical Cross Trainer

The Bluefin Fitness CURV 2.0 Elliptical Cross Trainer comes with a console that features an LCD Monitor with segmented windows that are designed to display multiple workout data simultaneously.

The monitor tracks workout stats such as Time, Speed, Distance, RPM, Calories Burned, and Pulse. The display is crystal clear and cannot be diminished by the lack of adequate lighting in the room because the monitor has a backlight.

The measurement units for Speed and Distance can be toggled between mph/mile and km/h/km.

The console is not telemetric; therefore, the pulse can only be read when the heart rate sensors on the static handlebar are grasped.

There is a manual program that allows you to select resistance levels as you see fit, and there are 12 preset workout programs that are designed with predetermined resistance levels to help you achieve certain fitness goals.

As aforementioned, if any of the preset workout programs is selected, what happens is that a certain resistance level will automatically be applied to your workout.

So also, there is HRC Mode that includes 55%, 75%, and 90% heart rate range. When any of these is selected the resistance level will automatically be applied also.

A Recovery Function is included; this help to calculate the heart recovery level of the user. To use this, you must push the Recovery Function button and place both hands on the heart rate sensors, and a countdown of 1 minute will commence. Upon completing it, your pulse recovery result will be displayed between F1-F6, with F1 being excellent and F6 being poor.

You can set a countdown goal for Time, Distance, or Calories.

The console is compatible with the Kinomap app. It could be synced with the app via Bluetooth. Connecting to this app avails several workout resources such as the possibility to train on virtual trails, having access to thousands of workout videos around the world, live coaching & training classes, and more.

The app is available for both Android and iOS-based smartphones on the app stores.

Accessory

The CURV 2.0 Elliptical Cross Trainer integrates a tablet holder that could hold even a large device for entertainment or workout-related purposes.

However, because of the positioning of the tablet holder, the display might be blocked if a device is placed on it.

Storage

TheBluefin Fitness CURV 2.0 Elliptical Cross Trainer transport wheels for relocation purposes

The machine is not large; thus, it takes only a small storage space with measurements of 3’7’’ (113 cm) length by 1’6’’ (50 cm) width.

There are front-mounted transport wheels that are designed to enable easy and free transportation between the storage and workout areas.

I bought the bluefin curv 2.0. The display panel looks like it has a battery compartment but I cannot open it. Any suggestions? I never heard from the manufacturer.

    1. Sorry for the belated response. To your question, the machine is powered by electricity, thus, the console does not require batteries.
